About us
What’s In A Name?
The UTM navigational grid system divides the world into alpha-numeric sections. The section S12 is made up almost entirely of Arizona and all of Arizona sits in S12. We chose this name because we are Arizonans and we teach in Arizona for survival and defense techniques specific to Arizona’s mountains and deserts.
What We Teach
We offer a full line of classes that are perfect for beginner levels which will be a good fit for our introduction to firearms classes. Enthusiasts will not only find our basic classes informative and educational from the firearms instructing aspects but also will receive pointers from instructors on equipment, mental and physical conditioning as well as legal considerations. Our classes are designed to be in-progress, one class builds on another. Our advanced courses which incorporate small team tactics and maneuvers require a documented level of training. We ask that attendees be able to give reasonable documentation of prior training.
A closer look at some of our classes can be found under the training section of our site. These following links will take you to some of our most popular class offerings, basic rifle and pistol classes are the traditional firearms training that teach the beginning shooter the proper methods of safe and effective weapon handling and operation, our advanced classes take the shooter beyond traditional, competition-based rifle and pistol training. The skills we instruct are based off small unit doctrine, these proven infantry combat techniques are adapted to the application of the law abiding citizen who might find themselves in a hostile situation.
Who We Are
Sierra12 is run by combat veterans as well as current and former Law Enforcement Officers. We have extensive experience which helps give context to the "why" and "how" of training, equipment, and mental preparedness. We look forward to giving individual advice tailored to the each specific attendees needs and end goals. All of our training cadre are continually seeking self-improvement in our own lives both mentally, physically and defensively. Our philosophy on instructing is that there is no singular "right" way of doing something. We ask attendees to be open-minded when being exposed to new or different tactics. We present our experiences too attendees in the hopes that in combination with physical manipulation drills and scenarios that the attendee will gain mental tools to be used not only to win a fight, but also in avoiding the fight in the first place.
Many of our students are not prior Military or Law Enforcement, we strive to cut through the labyrinth of military jargon and acronyms by synthesizing the "Military-like" verbal and non-verbal communications as well as tactics into a easily understandable common sense approach to learning. We keep our content focused on the context of the law abiding citizen who may need to protect their family or themselves from probable scenarios such as a survival situation, threat of a deadly confrontation, escorting or guiding friends-family-community members from an area of danger to an area of safety. Sierra12 values family, community and team. We raise the team by raising each individual to be a better member of their team.
We ask attendees to keep political and religious topics out of the training areas. There is plenty of time for "fire-side" talks after we secure from training and you are on your own time.
