![]() Water treatment in the field- At our last class we tried a new water treatment product. I have normally just used Potable Aqua tablets. The main listed ingredient in Potable Aqua is Tetraglycine Hydroperiodide. I did a little research and found that.. I may not be interested in ingesting Tetraglycine Hydroperiodide more than 3 times a day for more than 7 days on end. Link to some of the research http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7829615
Researching chlorine dioxide, the main ingredient in aquamira, we found that chlorine dioxide has widely been used in water disinfectant processes since 1956. Some of the interesting properties of chlorine dioxide are: Registered EPA biocide, chlorine dioxide does not lose effectiveness over time, bacteria does not grow resistant to it. An interesting side not about Chlorine dioxide, it was the main decontamination agent used to clean buildings after the 2001 anthrax attacks. From first use I can say that aquamira does not have any unpleasant after taste. I like the small packaging as well. I can move one or two packs into my pocket and leave the rest of the packages in my pack until needed. It looks like we have a new team item for Sierra12. As we continue to use aquamira, especially during our patrolling classes,we will update here with any interesting findings. http://www.aquamira.com/
