![]() TAPCO Short Vertical Grip mod. First I would like to point out that I actually find some of the products from TAPCO aren’t all that bad. My main issue with TAPCO products is mostly the aesthetics are pretty ugly. The thing I really like about TAPCO is they are an American owned company producing quality parts here in the States at an affordable price point. I have talked previously about price point and how it influences buying decisions. Let’s turn the tables a little on the AR-snobbishness that runs rabid in the firearms industry. I say if it is made in the USA, is a quality part, then lets support them instead of putting the company down.... Soapbox rant off-
I had a short vert grip from TAPCO laying around. I like the look of the grip, the grooves and such. I had a thought to stipple the high parts of the grooves. It turned out pretty good. I don’t use vertical grips in the standard sense, I use them more as an anchor point for my support hand to index on than to grip my fingers around and hold it as it was taught in the early days. The short vert grip seemed too long for me; I took out my trusty Dremel and cut a little under half of the grip off. The rubber bottom piece of the vert grip needed to be trimmed down a little but it also fit back on and covered up some of the rough edges. The finished product was just right. The length was not too long nor too short. I could index my hand as well as use it for support when shooting from a barricade. The TAPCO vert grip isn’t a quick on off set up, you need a screwdriver, not really a big deal for me, it stays put on that specific rifle and it doesn’t move up and down the rail, set it and forget it.
