We have been testing a set of Exoskel Guards for a few weeks now.  I found this piece of gear really finds it stride when being used in urban or urban-lite environments.  Man-made structures that have nice sharp corners and other protruding objects which you normally try to avoid when navigating through an environment are now used to your advantage when wearing the Exoskel Guards....

You don’t have to think twice before scrambling up an otherwise painful and precarious obstacle.  Using the hard points on the Exoskel Guards we were able to convert areas that normally would not provide traction – into a traction point.

Exoskel Guards are no substitute to proper climbing techniques, always maintaining 3 points of contact.  Early on I was looking for places to get a “bite” and use as traction.  In my opinion you just forget you are wearing these and climb as you always have.  Where ever you used to use a shin, you will still use the same shin placement, this time it will be protected by the Exoskel Guard as well as providing this shin placement the added value of having traction hard points to assist in gaining that forward or upward movement.

I found several times that I had knocked my shin into an obstruction which normally would have left me hopping around shouting curse words, the Exoskel guards prevented the  inadvertent contact from distracting me from what I was doing.

One other advantage to these in an urban environment is the use of unconventional defensive and offensive capabilities.  There are situations in which you must go hands on, we always fight to win, which is fighting dirty.   Exoskel Guards provide additional hard-points to parry a kick, utilizing the additional hard points as a means to introduce pain compliance, and to add additional damage to the enemy through targeted kicks.

During low craws the Exoskel Guards dug into the ground and assisted with providing extra traction while pushing myself forward with my leg and pulling with my hands.  This helped not only conserve energy, but assisted in speeding up the time it took to complete the predetermined low crawl path.

We will continue to post update as we find new environments to test the Exoskel Gaurds in.
